West Lothian resident left furious after bin is stolen and set on fire

A West Lothian resident has been left furious after her bin was stolen and set on fire in Blackburn.

In a post shared to a local Facebook page the woman alleged that someone had stolen her bin on Sunday (9 June).

She shared CCTV footage from her property that appears to show a teenage girl taking the bin from her front garden.

She added that it was then set on fire nearby, posting a photo of the melted bin, and that a "crowd" had been caught on CCTV.

Commenting on the post, another local also said: "The bin at the skate park was also set alight this afternoon!"

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We can confirm we received a report of a wheelie bin being stolen from an address in Beechwood Gardens, Blackburn and then set alight.

"The incident happened around 8.10pm on Sunday 9th June and inquiries are ongoing."

Edinburgh Live previously reported that there had been more than 140 wheelie bin fires in West Lothian in the space of a year.

The fire service warned of the dangers of deliberate fire-starting, saying these blazes can have devastating consequences.
