A West Lothian pub is to be renovated into new shops, including a hot food takeaway.
The council granted planning permission on Friday September 3 for a change of use at the Clachan Bar to create new shops.
The site at The Clachan Bar in Whitburn has not been used in recent years since the pub shut its doors.
The ex-landlord at the pub John Wallace is listed on the application as the owner and Gateside Designs are the agent behind the application.
When granting permission the case officer on the planning application, Kirsty Hope, said: “The application is for the change of use from the former public house to shops (class 1), financial, professional and other services (class 2), food and drink (class 3) and hot food takeaway use with associated alterations to building.
“The applicant has advised that the hot food takeaway use (sui generis) or food and drink (class 3) use would not be located within unit 3 – located closest to the residential property.
“The use classes proposed are appropriate for the town centre location.”
The largest of the three shops, in the old public bar area, will have 150 sqm floor space, with two smaller units at 64 sqm and 41 sqm taking up what used to be the Clachan Bar’s lounges.
