West Lothian police report that they have caught numerous people for driving under the influence of drugs recently

Police have reported drivers to the Procurator Fiscal  for failing new drug driving tests.

Sgt Iain Wells outlined the use of tests for proscribed drugs when he spoke to the Broxburn, Uphall and Winchburgh Local Area Committee.

He told the meeting a “number of people” had been reported to the Fiscal after failing the recently introduced roadside tests.

The test can be called for by officers when they suspect a driver may be under the influence of drugs and traffic officers administer the roadside test for cocaine and cannabis.

If found the driver can be detained and further tests such as blood and urine can be carried out at the police station.
