West Lothian police remind public it is illegal to buy alcohol for minors after two young people hospitalised

West Lothian police are targeting a local park after two young people were hospitalised due to under age drinking.

Officers say that in recent weeks there have been various incidents at Howden Park in Livingston with young people becoming heavily intoxicated.

A spokesperson for the Livingston Community Team said online: “Following on from last week we are pleased to report that the issues around Howden Park last weekend were better than previous weeks, however there were still instances of young people becoming heavily intoxicated.

“Unfortunately two young people had to be conveyed to hospital due to their levels of intoxication (thankfully, both are better now).

“Local officers are out in the area this afternoon as well as visiting local off licences highlighting the issues to them as well as reminding them of their responsibilities.

“Remember, buying alcohol and providing to young people is an offence.

“More importantly, providing alcohol to young people poses a significant risk to that young person’s safety, as illustrated last weekend, as well as having a significant impact on the local community.

“Please stay safe, remember your responsibilities, and enjoy your weekend.”
