West Lothian police probe 'fake' abduction video after locals left concerned

A video showing an apparent abduction in West Lothian has been investigated by police and found to be fake.

Concerned locals shared the video, posted on Twitter yesterday, which shows a man bound and gagged in the back of a vehicle.

Another man can be heard saying: "Your going for a drive sunshine...you'll pay your tick bill in future."

The video then goes on to show the man tied to a lamppost before he identifies himself.

"You're in no position to be making demands," the man videoing the incident says, filming the second man suspended from the lamp post with tape.

But a Police Scotland spokesperson said the video had been investigated and no criminality was found.

A force spokesperson said: "We are aware of a video on social media which shows an alleged abduction in Bathgate on Saturday, 3 April.

"We have received several calls about this and, following enquiries, have established that the man is safe and no criminality has taken place."
