West Lothian police officers have put out an appeal for the owners of a lost dog to come forward and claim their animal, before it makes itself at home too much in the station.
In a light-hearted post on their official Facebook page, the authority wrote: "This beautiful dog has just been handed in to the station at Bathgate, they seem to be settling well into Police life, but I'm sure someone will be missing them.
"You will require to prove ownership before we release them from custody, until then I will enjoy their company.
"Community Sergeant Jack."
Many comments cooed over the beautiful puppy, with one stating: "If you don’t find an owner I would happily give it a home!"
Another user said: "What a beautiful Irish setter. I'm sure someone will be missing them. Fingers crossed they get home soon."
Others said: "Beautiful dog and thank you for looking after him."
Another user chimed in: "Surely the owner has now realised that their dog is missing."

Sergeant Jack kept the comments updated with the pup's movements, with the first comment saying: "Suddenly realised how important liberty is, the adventure seemed like a good idea at the time!"
Attached was a photo (below) of the auburn coloured dog staring out the window.

The next update read: "Tbh folks I'm in no rush to hand them back!! I'm guessing the owner will soon realise and that this post will track them down pretty quickly, if not we will scan etc. Seems happy enough meantime."
But there was a bittersweet ending to this puppy's escapade for Sergeant Jack after all, as he finally found the owners: "He's reunited, liberated from custody with special bail conditions not to enter Bathgate town centre unaccompanied, or leave his home address without a responsible, human.
"Thanks for all your concern folks, lets see what comes through the door next!"
