West Lothian police investigating after person died on the M8 motorway this morning

A person died on the M8 motorway in West Lothian this morning.

Police were alerted and emergency services raced to the the M8 at Whitburn, just before 12.30am this morning.

However the person's life could not be saved and they were declared dead at the scene.

Officers said investigations into the M8 eastbound incident are ongoing.

Traffic Scotland announced this morning that there were delays on the motorway.

They said road traffic was queuing back onto the M8 and being diverted off at Heartlands and back on at J4 Whitburn

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “At around 12.20am on Friday June 18 2021, police were called to a report of a person having been struck by a vehicle on the M8 eastbound near Whitburn.

“Emergency services attended and the person was pronounced dead at the scene.”
