West Lothian police hunt vandals after £200,000 fire-raising spree

Vandals wreaked havoc with a series of deliberate fires on Friday, which saw £200,000 worth of industrial material and a building destroyed.

Fire crews raced to Livingston after reports of cabling being set on fire near the Lizzie Brice roundabout shortly after 4.30am before being called out to Douglas Rise and Kenilworth Rise, also in Livingston, where a building and bins were set alight.

Police officers are treating the blazes as deliberate and issued an appeal for witnesses to help them catch the culprits.

Officers said no one was hurt but have urged locals with CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward and share information with police while enquiries are ongoing.

Detective Constable Adam Gow, of Livingston CID, said: “Our enquiries into this series of fires are ongoing and we are working to establish the full circumstances.

“We are keeping an open mind as to whether the incidents are linked.

“We would urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity to come forward as soon as possible. In particular, we would be keen to speak to anyone with dashcam footage or private CCTV in the area.

“If you have any information which help our investigation please call 101, quoting incident 0461 of 30 July, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
