West Lothian police ask public for 'suspicious sightings' after deliberate car fire

Police in West Lothian are appealing to the public after a car was set on fire in Fauldhouse.

The incident, which occurred on Sunday, May 15, around 11.30pm, is being treated as wilful by officers.

Emergency services attended the scene, at Church Place, and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service extinguished the fire safely, with no injuries reported.

Detective Constable Adam Gow, of Livingston CID, said: “Thankfully nobody has been injured as a result of this reckless act.

“We are treating the fire as deliberate and are asking anyone with any information to come forward and speak to officers.

“I would ask if you noticed anyone acting suspicious in the area to get in contact with police and I would also appeal to anyone who has possible dashcam or CCTV footage that may be able to assist us with our enquiries.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 4053 of 15 May. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.

Information obtained through a Freedom of Information request revealed that last year, there were more than 400 incidents involving wilful fire raising, a number that the SFRS say is increasing already in 2022.

Postcodes EH47, EH48, EH49, EH52, EH53 and EH54, which covers most of West Lothian, including Bathgate, Linlithgow, Broxburn, Broxburn and Livingston, recorded 98 incidents between them, the most being from Livingston, with 31.
