West Lothian police appeal for witnesses after wilful fire-raising

Police are appealing for witnesses following a wilful fire-raising at a church in West Lothian earlier this week.

The fire occurred in the Ladywell area of Livingston.

Police received a report of a fire at a church in Fernbank around 9.30pm on Tuesday, April 9, which they attended along with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

The fire was extinguished shortly after midnight. It is being treated as suspicious and police are now investigating.

Two male teenagers were seen in the area and police are trying to trace them. They are described as being around 14 to 15-years-old with slim builds, and both were wearing dark clothing.

Detective Sergeant Ally Urquhart of Livingston’s Criminal Investigation Department said: “This was a significant fire which required a major response from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“It is essential that we trace those involved in this incident as soon as possible.

“I would ask anyone who was in the Ladywell area of Livingston on the evening of Tuesday, April 9, and saw anything suspicious, to get in touch with us at their earliest convenience.”

Those with information are asked to contact officers at Livingston CID on 101, quoting incident number 4159 of April 9.
