West Lothian police appeal after row of trees 'suspiciously' set on fire near houses

Police in West Lothian are appealing to the public after a set of trees were suspiciously set on fire on Tuesday.

Officers in Whitburn are hoping the public can come forward with some information after they were made aware of the fire at a property in Gleneagles Court, around 8pm on Tuesday.

They say a number of conifer trees were set alight and could easily have spread to nearby homes.

Early indications are the fire was started deliberately, with a substantial amount of damage being done to the area.

Thankfully, nobody was injured during the potentially dangerous incident.

Officers are checking any relevant CCTV footage for any additional information.

Detective Constable Emma Thacker said: “This fire could easily have spread to the house, thankfully, no-one has been injured but it’s imperative we find whoever is responsible for setting the fire.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to think back and consider if they noticed anything which seemed a little odd or suspicious. Any small piece of information could prove vital so please do pass it on.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 3976 of 7 June 2022. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where information can be given anonymously.
