West Lothian pensioner hospitalised after savage dog attack in care home garden

A West Lothian pensioner required hospital treatment following a savage attack by a dog in the grounds of a care home.

The 69-year-old woman and her own pooch suffered a litany of injuries after the freak incident when they were charged at by a massive doberman or Rottweiler on Friday, November 5.

The victim was walking her Schnauzer/Bichon Frise cross in green space outside the Holmes Garden care home in Broxburn at shortly after 2:30pm.

A much larger canine began powering towards the woman and her pet with its owner, who was also in control of another animal, in the distance.

The woman attempted to shield her dog from the assault, but the little pup suffered puncture marks to its legs.

The victim meanwhile sustained a laceration to her lip and was rushed to hospital for medical treatment.

Police have now launched an appeal to locate the owner of the dog responsible for the shocking incident.

PC Kirsty Forsyth of Broxburn Police Station said: “We are keen to trace a man described as in his 30s, 5ft 3, with a heavy build, thinning brown hair wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

"The dog responsible is described as a large black and tan Doberman/Rottweiler type dog and the man was also with a medium ginger coloured type dog."

PC Forsyth added: “Anyone with information should call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2129 of 5 November, 2021.”
