West Lothian opens more electric vehicle charger points for public

More public electric vehicle (EV) charger points have been installed in West Lothian.

The latest additions to the network include three new units at Calderwood School, East Calder and a new rapid charger at Fauldhouse Partnership Centre.

Work is also nearing completion on additional “fast” chargers at The Vennel, Linlithgow and Blackridge Primary School.

Once the new, “fast” chargers have been commissioned, this will bring the total number of chargers in the council network to 24 including nine rapid chargers.

The installations, funded by Transport Scotland’s Local Authority Installation Programme, have been completed by Swarco eVolt and their local sub-contractor Boyd Brothers and are part of the ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) network.

You can view a live map of all the charge points on the CPS network at https://chargeplacescotland.org/

Drivers are encouraged to follow ChargePlace Scotland’s “ Electric Vehicle Charge Point Etiquette Guide ” , treating fellow network users with respect and courtesy whilst making use of the public charge points. This includes limiting the time connected to rapid charge points to one hour.

Executive councillor for the environment, Tom Conn said: “The council is committed towards supporting projects which will help meet net zero targets for carbon emissions.

"The expansion of the EV charging network in West Lothian is an important part of this with improved infrastructure hopefully allowing more drivers to make the choice on whether they can use an electric vehicle.”

A list of EV charging points available for public use in West Lothian can be found on the West Lothian Council website. Visit: https://www.westlothian.gov.uk/ev-charging
