West Lothian no longer the most infectious place in Scotland for Covid-19

West Lothian is no longer the most infectious region for Covid-19 in Scotland.

The latest Public Health Scotland data as of March 31 revealed there were 25 new cases of the coronavirus in the county.

Across the week between March 23 - 29 there were another 244 new cases and a total of 7771.

This works out at a positivity rate over the week of 133 per 100,000, compared to the national average of 63.

But crucially with infections dropping West Lothian is no longer the most infectious region in Scotland.

Clackmannanshire is highest with 196 per 100,000, West Lothian is second, and North Lanarkshire is third highest with 131.

Briech Valley remains the most infectious of the 37 neighbourhoods in West Lothian with 49 infections.

However, there are now 17 neighbourhoods where the virus has been suppressed over the past week, with fewer than two cases.

They were: Bathgate and Boghall, Blackburn, Blackridge, Westfield and Torphichen, Broxburn East, Broxburn Kirkhill, Broxburn South, East Calder, Fauldhouse, Knightsridge and Deans North, Linlithgow Bridge, Linlithgow North and Linlithgow South, Seafield, Uphall, Dechmont, and Ecclesmachan, West Calder and Polbeth, Whitburn, Croftmalloch and Greenrigg and Winchburgh, Bridgend and Philipstoun.

Meanwhile, Nicola Sturgeon has urged Scots to ‘take care’ as coronavirus plateau across the country.

The First Minister took to social media to urge people to be wary of the spread of the deadly virus that has killed more than 9,000 people in Scotland.
