West Lothian MSP backs Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month during the month of March

A local MSP is giving his backing to Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month this March.

Labout Lothian MSP Neil Findlay is calling on women to know the symptoms of the disease.

If ovarian cancer is diagnosed early, nine out of 10 women will survive.

Currently, two thirds of women are diagnosed late, when ovarian cancer is harder to treat.

It is vital that women know the symptoms of ovarian cancer so they can be diagnosed early.

The Covid-19 pandemic has deterred people coming forward to their GP, which could lead to people living with ovarian cancer undetected for longer.

The main symptoms are: persistent bloated tummy, always feeling full, tummy pain and needing to pass urine more.

Neil Findlay MSP said: “With the pandemic slowing down suspected cancer referrals and affecting the numbers of people attending their GP, we have to try and avoid a spike in cancer cases as the NHS reopens fully.

“March is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month and campaign groups want all women to know and understand the symptoms so that they can be diagnosed and treated early. If you have any concerns please do not hesitate to contact you doctor.”
