West Lothian motorist handed ASBO after attempting to drive up steep grass verge

A driver in West Lothian has been slapped with an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) after deliberately driving up a grass verge by the side of an A-road.

CCTV images showed the mindless motorist leaving thick tyre tracks up and down the embankment next to a stretch of tarmac near Livingston town centre - in full view of security cameras.

Road policing officers analysed footage after reports rutted roadside terrain had seemingly appeared overnight during the past week from locals.

Officers have been carrying out operations in the area relating to reckless driving following a host of complaints from local residents.

Several drivers have already been charged as a result of increased patrols in the area, with a number of fixed penalty notices also given to those failing to obey the rules of the road.

The motorist in question has now been given an ASBO after it was determined he had driven in a “careless and inconsiderate manner”.

The police operation, codenamed Operation Kazoo, already saw officers arrest a man performing doughnuts in a supermarket car park while five times over the drink drive limit.

He was charged with a road offence, while a motorcyclist was given a prohibition order following complaints from locals in the Howden Park area over dangerous road usage, particularly in the evening.

A dozen warnings were also handed out to those flouting rules.

A Police Scotland statement said: "Following community concerns regarding the anti-social use of vehicles in the Livingston Town Centre area, your Community and Roads Policing Teams have been carrying out additional patrols.

"Several people have been reported for road traffic offences. We will continue to focusing on providing appropriate advice to drivers and if necessary charging where offences come to light."
