West Lothian McDonald's apologise to family as they pledge to 'never eat there again'

Bosses at a West Lothian McDonald’s restaurant have apologised to a family after their dining experience left them feeling ‘disgusted’.

A grandmother, from Livingston, shared pictures with Edinburgh Live after finding the fast-food eatery covered in rubbish, with sticky tables.

Jackie, who took her 10-year-old granddaughter to their local Almondvale Avenue branch on Wednesday night, said she was shocked at the smell and mess at the restaurant.

The gran said she could not stand the stench and saw bins piled with empty containers and trash littered around the floor. She said it ‘was hard to spot an accessible table’ due to the surrounding mess and raged that they ‘would never eat at the restaurant ever again’.

Jackie said: “It was absolutely disgusting, staff were more bothered about the Just Eat orders going out the door. Every table had trays, food and spilt drinks over them and that was at 7.30pm last night.

“We couldn’t stand the smell, I had taken my granddaughter to the Playhouse and this was a treat for her before dropping her home. When we sat down we hadn’t seen the bins yet as they weren’t visible from where we ordered on the screen.

“I also have cerebral palsy and use a walker so had to sit where was accessible for me.”

The fast food chain has since apologised to the family and say they will review conditions - however, other local customers have also slammed the fast food restaurant for its cleanliness.

Irina Mitchell said: “Went once early morning for a coffee, every single table had food wrapping or ketchup spilt all over. It must be from last night as well. Disgusting.”

Ian Buckle said: “We were there last weekend and the male toilets were vile with pee all over the floor. I wouldn’t eat there again if you paid me. Tables were filthy too.”

While Thomas Jackson added: “This has to be the worst McDonald’s around!”

The restaurant confirmed that it passed its most recent Food Hygiene visit.

A spokesperson for McDonald’s said: “We are sorry to hear about this customer’s experience.

“At McDonald’s, we pride ourselves on stringent hygiene and cleanliness standards with procedures in place to ensure restaurants are clean and tidy throughout the day.

“On this occasion, we have fallen short of our usual high standards and will review ways in which to address this. We would encourage the customer to contact our Customer Services team.”
