West Lothian man with sight loss will play in FA Disability Cup this weekend

A Livingston man with sight loss is to play in the FA Disability Cup tomorrow.

Neil Atkinson from Livingston is hoping people will tune into the FA Disability Cup this Saturday when his team, Scorpions Futsal Club, is playing in the Partially Sighted final. It will be broadcast live on BT Sport 1 from 2.45pm.

And he hopes people in West Lothian will tune in to support him.

"It’s the first time it will be live on TV so would be great if as many people could watch it to encourage BT to continue to cover it in the future," says Neil.

Neil (22) was diagnosed with the genetic condition Stargardt’s Macula Dystrophy at the age of eight.

He continued: "The team I play for is Scorpions Futsal Club.

"We play a small sided variation of football called Futsal, it’s played on a hard surface court with a slightly smaller, heavier ball than a regular football, and is played with one goalkeeper and four outfielders. There are no adaptations to the sport from regular Futsal rules for visual impairments - no bell in the ball, eye shields, or post-tappers, etc.

"The match is being shown live from 3pm on Saturday on BT Sport, which is a subscription channel but a common channel for people who watch a lot of sport. I believe it will also be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook through BT Sport’s social channels."
