West Lothian man hoping to win a share of £1million on new TV gameshow this

A West Lothian man is hoping to win a share of £1million when he appears on a new Channel Four gameshow this week.

Chris Bell is appearing in the new show, Moneybags, throughout this week, which is hosted by Coronation Street and Red Dwarf star Craig Charles.

Chris said it was lockdown that inspired him to push himself out of his comfort zone and apply.

He said: “I would never have done this before lockdown.

“My twin brother Danny and I decided we’d try and go on something together and applied for The Wall. When we didn’t get through, I googled which other TV shows were looking and came across Moneybags.’ Adam applied to go on the show by himself.

“I’d never been in a TV studio before. Seeing the lights and cameras for the first time was quite overwhelming and I remember thinking ‘what am I doing?!’ I was first person they called to play and was quite nervous but soon started to relax.”

In each show, which airs at 3pm, players are hoping that they’ll be randomly selected to take their place in front of the money belt for one of the three head-to-head battles. Whoever banks the most cash in each round will compete in the ‘triple-header’, a tense three-way battle in which whoever grabs – or steals – the most cash will play to win it all in the Moneybags final.

If he won a million pounds, Chris, who is originally from Stoneyburn but now lives in Leeds, says that he would “buy a house and a car and I’d love to go travelling all over the world”.

And Chris siad of host Craig Charles: “I remember my Dad used to love Red Dwarf and so did we, growing up. I knew him from Robot Wars too. Craig was really cool on set, because of social distancing we couldn’t get too close. He was really chatty and good at calming people down and always laughing and joking.”

“I’m so glad I did it now, it was a brilliant experience and I met loads of great people. We’ve all kept in touch on a What’s App - that’s been buzzing this week with everything starting up.”
