West Lothian man hit with 'object' in daylight attack by man walking with child

A West Lothian man was left hospitalised after being attacked with a 'heavy object' in a heinous broad daylight assault.

The 24-year-old suffered head injuries and required treatment at a local medical facility following the reportedly unprovoked incident on Lanrigg Road in Fauldhouse on Thursday, May 13.

The victim was walking down the busy residential street at around 3:30pm in the afternoon when he was accosted by the suspected assailant, who is said to have been in the company of a younger boy.

He was approached by the man, said to be in his twenties, and was almost immediately struck by the object with no prior altercation taking place.

The suspect and the younger boy are then said to have run off in an unknown direction, leaving the man injured on the ground.

He was rushed to St John's Hospital in Livingston where he received treatment for head injuries but was later released.

Police have now launched an appeal for information regarding the incident and a description of the man they believe to be responsible.

The suspect is described as a white male, around 6ft 3in tall with a slim build, and was wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

Detective Constable Alan Gibson from Livingston CID said: “This was an unprovoked attack on the victim, which left him with a serious head injury, and it is vital we trace the individual responsible.

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Lanrigg Road on Thursday afternoon, and may have witnessed the incident or noticed a man matching the above description, to please get in touch."

DC Gibson added: “Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 1079 of Friday, 14 May. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
