West Lothian leaders drive home impact of Tier Four restrictions on county

West Lothian Council say they will make sure the Scottish Government understand the “economic and social” impact Level Four is having on the county.

In recent weeks The Courier has reported on the strain the new restrictions are placing on businesses.

The leader of the council, Lawrence Fitzpatrick, says this message will be delivered to the Scottish Government ahead of Level Four being reviewed next week.

He said: “I’m sure everyone hopes that West Lothian sees a steady decline of Covid-19 cases.

“The economic and social impact of being placed in Level 4, the highest level, is severe and clearly nobody in West Lothian wants that position to continue.

“We need to wait and see what the data highlights when the Scottish Government make their final decision and we have always said that the science and the data should always determine what level West Lothian should be in.

“We will of course make that position clear to the Scottish Government in advance of their update next week.”

The Scottish Government initially placed West Lothian into Level Four until December 11 and Nicola Sturgeon said she would have an update early next week for all local authorities.
