West Lothian kids on the fast track to success after go-karting victories

A pair of young pals from Armadale are on the fast track to success after securing top go-karting titles.

Cole Denholm (10) and Ellis Bell (11) certainly have the need for speed after the duo mixed it up with the best of British and came out on top.

Cole was named 2022 British Honda Cadet champion with Ellis being named 2022 British Privateer Honda Cadet champion after a hugely successful season for both young racers.

The trophies capped off sensational seasons for the kids with Cole claiming 16 first places and 13 fastest laps across just 21 competitions entered, while Ellis, who runs as a privateer with dad Graham, just missed out on a top-10 overall place but was able to walk away with the Top Privateer trophy.

He picked up a string of second and third place finishes across the season before collecting a maiden win at the East of Scotland Kart Club recently.

Both have been karting from a young age and have no intention of slowing down any time soon.

Cole’s dad Ian Denholm said: “Cole started karting when he was six years old in the Bambino class but quickly progressed into Cadets and he’s now the youngest Honda Cadet champion after winning every round he competed in.

“The ultimate goal would be a career in racing but we’re all just taking it one step at a time.”

Graham Bell, Ellis’s dad said: “I’m super proud of what he has achieved, especially considering he has had no team backing or tuition.

“He’s always been a very clean racer with a very mature attitude. He’s made so many friends along the way and a whole bunch of memories that will last a lifetime.”

He added: “He’s been karting for three years. We entered the British Karting Championship this year with the aim of being Top Privateer and it’s a brilliant achievement.

“He now moves into the new Inter Class for Mini Max, which is new for 2023, and will be taking part in the British Championships again and looking forward to the challenge.”
