West Lothian 'hit-and-run' arrests made in connection with death of dad-of-two

A man and a woman have been arrested in connection with a fatal collision which left a 53-year-old man dead.

Grieving family members of George Robertson launched a heartfelt appeal for information after the father-of-two was allegedly hit and killed by a car on his walk home in September last year.

Emergency crews raced to Mr Robertson following the incident on the B792 between Bathgate and Torphichen between 10:15pm and 11pm on Sunday, September 20.

He was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after calls from members of the public, but tragically passed a short time later.

Mr Robertson’s family urged anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward in an emotional message last year, putting up a £10,000 reward for information in a ‘final throw of the dice’.

Police have now confirmed a 36-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman have been arrested in connection with the collision.

They have been released pending further enquiry, however officers are understood to have seized a vehicle as part of the ongoing probe.

Sergeant Stephen Quinn of the Road Policing Unit said: “Extensive enquiries continue to be conducted as we seek answers for George’s loved ones.

"This is a significant development in the investigation and our thoughts remain with his family and friends.”

Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 4127 of Sunday, September 20.
