West Lothian golf association raises funds for Alzheimer Scotland

The Linlithgowshire Masonic Golf Association was certainly not under par with its donation of £300 to Cherie Raby, the West Lothian Dementia Advisor from Alzheimer Scotland.

The association raised the money during various events and said it wanted to help a charities are under even more pressure of the ongoing pandemic.

Jamie Ellis, association captain, explained, “At each golf outing, funds are raised for charity and donations are generally made at the end of the season to local groups. Last season that was over £1000.

“Taking into account the devastating negative impact that the COVID-19 pandemic is having on charities, it was felt that it was more appropriate to support them now rather than later.”

Jim Ellis, provincial grand master of Linlithgowshire, commended the golfers from the province, adding, “The decision to immediately donate to the West Lothian branch of Alzheimer Scotland was unanimous and adds to the support which has been extended by Lodges and Provincial Grand Lodge to many groups over the past number of months.”

Cherie said the money had come at an excellent time due to a very significant reduction in funding available to the charity in light of the pandemic and would be used to sustain some level of interaction with dementia patients and their families across the full county.

She said the money, which will remain with the West Lothian branch of the charity, will be put to immediate use to help the charity provide support and information to people diagnosed with Alzheimers and also those in caring roles.
