West Lothian girl wins beauty pageant

A young West Lothian girl will spend the next year raising money for charity after winning a beauty pageant.

Talia McCrimmon (12), from Blackridge, was crowned Teen Miss United Kingdom Supreme on April 13.

Despite being only 12, she was allowed to enter the teen category.

She was chosen from 19 contestants at the pageant, which was held at the Glasgow Airport Holiday Inn.

Talia said: “I was quite nervous going into the competition but I knew I just needed to be confident and be my own person.

“I had been preparing for the competition for about a year, getting different bits together for my outfits.

“I was really surprised when they called my name. I was completely over-whelmed. I couldn’t believe it was me.”

The event was put on by Supreme Pageants & Events and was judged on candidates’ abilities to put together looks and carry them off in a way that showed their confidence.

Talia’s mother Natalie said: “I’m very, very proud of her. It was a really teary moment for me when I heard her name called.”

Talia added: “I got into this through a friend because my confidence was quite low and this pageant’s been really good for helping me to be my own person and believe in myself more.”

Talia’s duty as the winner is to go out into the community and collect money for the Brightest Star charity, which helps bereaved parents.

She will be attending Blackridge Gala Day on June 23 to raise money for the charity.
