West Lothian footballer Liam Henderson could become first Scot to play in Serie A for 33 years

Broxburn footballer Liam Henderson is set to become the first Scot in 33 years to play in Serie A.

The 23-year-old helped Hellas Verona reach the top flight of Italian football as they overturned a 2-0 first leg deficit to beat Cittadella 3-2 on aggregate.

That means Henderson has now tasted glory in three countries after winning all major domestic trophies in Scotland during his time at Celtic and on loan with Hibs as well as earning a Norwegian league and cup double with Rosenborg.

The former Broxburn Colts star, whose younger brother Ewan is still at Celtic, would become the first Scottish player to play in Italy’s top flight since Graeme Souness played for Sampdoria against Napoli in April 1986.
