West Lothian football player is running 100km during Lent for marginalised African children

A Livingston Women’s football player is running 100km during Lent to raise funds for children with disabilities in South Sudan.

Rachael Downs, a PE and dance teacher at St Kentigern’s Academy in Blackburn is taking on the challenge for the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund.

She said: “Each year, the St Kentigern’s Academy community raise money for SCIAF during Lent.

This year, the pandemic and online learning isn’t stopping us.

“We have an online Just Giving page and every penny that is raised this year is being sent to South Sudan in aid of children with disabilities.

“St Kentigern’s have raised thousands of pounds in previous years for many years but there is something special about this year’s Lenten Appeal as pupils have taken on their own challenges centred around exercise and wellbeing to complete during lockdown.

“My challenge is run 100km in March and help raise £500 with my RE class (2.5) by the end of Lent.”

Pictured, alongside Miss Downs, are fellow teachers Mrs Tyrell, Mrs Cameron and Mrs Gill, who are all doing challenges to raise funds for the SCIAF appeal.
