West Lothian is joining organisations across the country in flying the flag for a week ahead of Armed Forces Day.
The Armed Forces Day flag was raised at West Lothian Civic Centre at 10am on Monday, June 24, and will remain in place until Sunday in honour of our country’s armed forces.
A special ceremony was held to mark the occasion, hosted by Provost Tom Kerr with invited guests including representatives from the West Lothian Armed Forces Day Organising Committee, West Lothian Council, Police Scotland, elected representatives, Lord Lieutenant Moira Niven and members of the public.
Cadet Declan Fell had the honour of raising the flag, with music from members of West Lothian Schools Pipe Band.
Provost Tom Kerr said: “Armed Forces Day is an ideal opportunity for us all to mark the contribution of the brave men and women, past and present, who represent the Armed
Forces.
“By flying the flag, we show our support for the men and women and their families who make up the Armed Forces community and the value they add to the wider West Lothian community.”
West Lothian Armed Forces Day (WLAFD) takes place on Sunday, June 30, from 1pm to 4pm at West Lothian Civic Centre.
The free event features a military parade, family fun day with activities, live music, stalls and much more.
