West Lothian family shave heads together to raise cash for the homeless and vulnerable

A family from West Lothian made the courageous decision to shave their heads together to raise funds for homeless and vulnerable people during the coronavirus pandemic.

Eight-year-old Lucy from Armadale decided she wanted to join her dad, John, when he decided to shave his hair off to raise money for Scotland's Homeless Project.

After witnessing the bravery of her youngest daughter and husband, Tracey Smith made a vow, that if the fund reached £1,000, she would also shave off her hair.

The Crowdfunder has currently raised £1,260 for the cause, meaning that Tracey has joined her husband and daughter in shaving her head.

Tracey Smith told Edinburgh Live: "Basically this started as John, my husband decided to purchase clippers due to not being able to get to the barbers.

"Lucy our youngest is eight and she said that she wanted to do hers too but that they should do it for charity.

"Lucy is always very kind to homeless on the street and always wants to give them money.

"When we had our older daughter's graduation in Glasgow, my girls kindly asked for the pizza that was uneaten to be boxed and they handed it to the homeless men we passed on the way back to the station.

Lucy decided that this is the organisation that she wanted to donate the money to.

"With times as they are just now, we set a realistic target of £500.

"Literally set the Just Giving Page up on Thursday 2nd April 2020 and within 24 hours we had raised £560 which is amazing.
