West Lothian education staff in the running for prestigious awards

West Lothian Council’s Inclusion and Wellbeing Service (IWS) has been shortlisted twice for the Times Education Supplement (TES) Schools Awards 2021.

Connolly School Campus has been nominated for the UK Best Alternative Provision School of the Year, while Tracey Dudgeon is in the running for UK Classroom Support Assistant of the Year.

The IWS supports over 500 children and young people with additional support Needs across West Lothian, with Connolly School Campus in Blackburn providing a nurturing and inclusive environment for children with a variety of needs, including social and emotional challenge.

Tracey was nominated by a number of her IWS colleagues due to the incredible work she undertakes to support pupils and their families so they can all be successful learners. The experienced pupil support worker previously worked in a mainstream school before joining the service and is trained in specialised numeracy supports.

IWS headteacher Andrew Millar said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for the IWS to be shortlisted twice at the TES Schools awards 2021.

“The dedicated team at Connolly Campus provide tailored support, with a focus on key areas such as inclusive practice and removing barriers for children.

“Tracey Dudgeon has been a valued member of the IWS team for two years and richly deserves this nomination, following in the footsteps of colleague Anne Harkness who was shortlisted last year.

“Her commitment to her own professional development to support the needs of some of our authority’s most vulnerable children is second to none. With Tracey’s knowledge of the mainstream primary setting, she is able to provide effective bridging support to help support IWS learners to re-integrate into their mainstream school and improve their life chances.”

Executive councillor for education David Dodds added: “Congratulations to Tracey Dudgeon and everyone at Connolly School Campus on being shortlisted for these awards.

“It shows the fantastic work being done within the IWS to support our children who need help the most.”
