West Lothian doggy daycare supports SSPCA by accepting donations for Pet Aid

A West Lothian doggy daycare and Scotland's largest indoor play zone is now accepting donations for the Pet Aid campaign on behalf of the Scottish SPCA.

PawHaus, located in Polbeth, Livingston, has set up a donation box hoping to collect as many essentials for pets in need as possible - and they have already experienced some great support from the local community.

Having already donated a couple of boxes packed with food, the daycare centre aims to support pets - and their owners - in the time of increasing financial pressure as the winter approaches and the soaring cost of living crisis.

Ewan Hunter, Director at PawHaus, said: "Everyone knows that during times of difficulty, it's not just humans who suffer, but pets too.

"When we heard about the huge and continuing rise in numbers of calls to the Scottish SPCA about rehoming because people were worried about continuing to be able to afford to feed their dogs, we knew we wanted to do something more to help."

Pet Aid is a campaign by the Scottish SPCA aimed at providing essential food supplies for animals through a network of food banks across most of the country.

Welcoming the support from the Livingston centre, Scottish SPCA CEO Kirsteen Campbell said: "We're very grateful to PawHaus for their generous donations to Pet Aid. We launched our Pet Aid service in August, and we currently partner with 16 foodbanks across Scotland to provide pet food for those struggling to feed their animals.

"This year, our inspectors are having to support pet owners in some horrendous situations. We're helping people who are not buying food for themselves so they can feed their pet, who are calling our animal helpline in floods of tears because they feel they've let their animal down.

"Prevention is in our name, and Pet Aid is part of our wider commitment to early intervention when it comes to protecting animals. Wherever possible, we will act to stop a person feeling they have no choice but to give up their pet.

"Anyone who is struggling to care for their pet can call our animal helpline on 03000 999 999 in strictest confidence for advice and support."

PawHaus accepts donations at their address at the Daks Building, Polbeth, EH55 8TJ.
