West Lothian dementia service welcomes cash boost of over £3000

The Answer Project in Whitburn, which provides respite care for families with elderly relatives with mobility, mental health and physical disabilities, as well as dementia, has received a boost with funding from the Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

The West Lothian-based organisation has been awarded £3574 by CRT, which supports local initiatives to improve health and employment prospects for residents of former mining communities. The money will be used by the Answer Project to improve toilet facilities for disabled people using its services.

The Answer Project offers activities and socialising four days a week at its centre in Whitburn, with the aim of enabling service users to maintain their own home for as long as possible. Referrals come from statutory health and social sources.

Robert Cook MBE, Answer Project director and chair, said: “We are grateful for the CRT grant which has enabled us to meet the additional physical and hygiene needs of more vulnerable clients. This facility was much needed due to the increasing demands in terms of service criteria for potential users of the service being referred by the local authority. This was an unforeseen cost which thankfully has been fully met by the CRT.”

Bob Young, trustee at the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, said: “We’re sure the Answer Project in Whitburn will benefit from our funding which will help it develop the worthwhile services it is offering families in its local community. It does an amazing job working with families who have elderly relatives with mobility, mental health and physical disabilities as well as dementia and we’re delighted to support the project.”
