West Lothian dad's spectacular spooky light display raises thousands for charity

An eye-popping light show featuring a towering jack-o’-lantern and boasting millions of bulbs and an LED screen returned to get everyone into the spirit of Halloween.

Derek Campbell flicked the switch on his spectacular spooky display at his home in Blackridge at the weekend for the second year running.

He lit up the sky around his home at Leishman Drive with a Halloween-themed light show for charity that was 10 months in the making.Derek, who owns Westrigg Electricals, transformed the property into an unbelievable haunted house to raise money for a good cause.

Last year, he held Halloween and Christmas shows to raise money for River Kids.

And this year Derek said he has chosen a cause that is even more personal to him.

Derek and his family picked the Zak Scott Braveheart Foundation after his baby son Cruz was born with a heart condition and their hard work has paid off as over £3000 has been raised so far.

And Derek – who has been working on the show since January – has had lots of positive feedback from people who braved the weather to watch the show, with one onlooker saying it was “another amazing show”.

Another said: “It was brilliant. You do so much for a great night.” Derek said: “The first night went well. We had a few teething issues, but everyone had a great time. Saturday ran a lot better.

“We had around 2000 visitors over the three nights. We will get a total raised for the Zak Scott Braveheart Foundation once our raffle is finished, but we were over the mark in total so we have done great.

“We look forward to seeing you all at our Christmas show.” Derek’s baby boy Cruz was born in September and has undergone two open-heart surgeries.

Derek wasn’t sure if he would manage to pull off the show this year as Cruz had been in hospital and only returned home the day before opening nigh, but he managed to make it a night to remember.
