West Lothian couple say working as a team is the secret to 70-year marriage

A couple who celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary say working together as a team have helped them enjoy 70-years of marriage.

Andy and Bett Crawford, who stay in Dedridge, married on June 16, 1950 in Camelon in Falkirk.

They moved to West Lothian in 1962, first to Blackburn and then Dedridge in 1974 and went on to have three children, seven grandchildren and two great grand children.

Andy (92) and Elizabeth (90), both worked at British Leyland in clerical and Andy later worked at Parsons Peebles.

Andy loves reading and gets through loads of books, especially good adventure or spy novels and enjoys seeing the birds in his garden and the swans at Dedridge pond.

He also enjoys indoor bowls at the Lanthorn while Elizabeth loves clothes, fashion and travel programmes which take her all round the world.

Before lockdown they enjoyed attending Dedridge Good Neighbour lunch group and Livingston South Community Church and have lots of friends at both.

Their daughter Anne Sherriff, said they were delighted to receive a card from the Queen and spoke to her Isobel online, as she stays in New Zealand.

She continued: “They always work as a team which makes them doubly strong, enough to manage 70 years of ups and downs.”

“They enjoyed a lockdown celebration from their little colourful garden in Dedridge.”
