West Lothian couple raise funds for six local care homes

Residents at six local care homes were delighted to receive a cash gift from a generous couple who want to give them a treat once lockdown is over.

Lynn and David Thomson wanted to “put a smile on the faces” of people who have been isolated in care homes unable to see their families since the middle of March.

So they set up a Crowdfunding page to raise money to provide a special celebration for residents.

The couple managed to raise £631, which has been split between six care homes – Crofthead in Fauldhouse, Livingston Care Home, Redmill in East Whitburn, Burngrange in West Calder, Woodlands in Livingston and Heatherfield Care Home in Armadale.

David said while they are disappointed they didn’t get a better response from their fundraising appeal, they are pleased they have been able to give something to the care homes.

The couple – who live in Stoneyburn with daughters Shannon (24), Charley (12) and Billie (10) and son Kyle (7) – both work for the NHS and had hoped people would get behind their campaign.

Lynn has been a domestic for nearly 15 years and David has delivered laundry for seven years.

David said: “Out of the whole of West Lothian only 49 people donated which we found to be very sad.

“So what we decided to do was ask anyone that donated to nominate a care home and they would each receive a £100 donation from the people of West Lothian.

“Myself and Lynn went around these places and delivered the money.”
