West Lothian councillor shaves beard grown during lockdown for cancer charity

One of the big moans of lockdown was not being able to get a haircut.

East Calder local councillor Carl John made the best of it by growing a beard to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Research.

After a family member was diagnosed with cancer last year he decided to ‘Brave the Shave’ and raise money for Macmillan nurses.

Having grown his beard and hair in lockdown he asked family, friends and fellow councillors to donate and has raised to date over £1,000.

Councillor John was chair of East Calder Community Council for over 30 years and has been an SNP West Lothian councillor for over 14 years.

He said: “Over the past few years I have become aware of the good works that Macmillan do for cancer victims.

Many close to me have had their invaluable help.

I would ask anyone who can spare a few pounds to donate to this tremendous charity.”

Since 2015 brave shavers have raised over £22.7 million. This incredible amount could pay for 140 Macmillan nurses for three years.
