West Lothian Council’s Waste Services team has passed a nationally recognised training and assessment scheme that aims to maintain high safety standards.
The council is the first local authority in Scotland to gain the qualification that ensures that waste operatives have received training in safety and operational procedures relating to waste collection.

The accreditation is through the National Plant Operators Registration Scheme (NPORS) and delivers Refuse Collection Vehicle (RCV) competence based training and to frontline RCV drivers and waste operatives.
To date, 20 council operatives have achieved the NPORS Refuse Collection Vehicle certificate with the remaining drivers and operatives due to complete the training in the coming year.
Jim Jack, head of operational services said: “We have a very good safety record in West Lothian and our team should be very proud of their efforts in working towards this national accreditation.”
