West Lothian Council issue bogus workmen warning following reports of home being targeted

Householders in West Lothian are warned to be on their guard against bogus workmen.

West Lothian Council made the warning after reports of men targeting homes, pretending to work for the council and asking for money.

A spokesperson said: “The council has received reports of bogus workmen targeting homes in West Lothian by falsely claiming they are carrying out work as part of the West Lothian Council Garden Maintenance Scheme and requesting payment.

“Residents and customers are asked to be vigilant and to please report any suspicious activity to the police.

“All operatives carrying out work for the council should be able to produce identification upon request.

“The Garden Maintenance Scheme is a free service for those eligible to receive it therefore customers should never be asked to present financial information to an operative.”
