West Lothian property attached to 15th century castle is seeking a new owner

A charming cottage attached to a 15th century West Lothian castle is seeking a new owner.

The historic property, located near Bathgate, has gone on the market at offers over £300,000.

The two-bedroom house is on the south side of B-listed Bridge Castle – formerly known Little Brighouse – which is an L-plan castle north west of the town and close to the Barbauchlaw Burn.

The castle was sold by Alexander Stewart to William Livingstone, 6th Lord Livingston in 1588, however when the Livingstones supported the Jacobite rising they forfeited their land and titles. It was then acquired by the Hope clan. According to Canmore the castle began as a tower and was then extended south. It was expanded further in the 17th century.

Upon entry you find a wide, welcoming hall and inside there's a spacious sitting room, sunny conservatory, dining kitchen, study area, utility room, storage cellar and two bright double bedrooms – the master having an en-suite bathroom.
