West Lothian community group looking for votes to help families

A community group is looking for votes to secure funding for a new project to help families.

Kidzeco, which runs reuse shops and affordable activities, is up against four other groups for a £45,604 share of a £3 million National Lottery Community Fund pot, which is up for grabs across the UK.

If successful it would open a new base in The Centre, Livingston, to provide a drop-in space for families.

The project, called Kidz N Kin, would have a soft play area, a sensory play area, a range of classes and activities for parents and young children, meeting rooms and a small cafe.

Last week Kidzeco showcased the project on STV East, appealing to local viewers to cast their votes to help them, and they are asking readers of The Courier to do the same.

Founding director Tracy Murdoch said: “If successful this will help us to make an even bigger difference to our local community by providing a welcoming space for families to learn, play and meet others without costing the earth.”

The cash giveaway celebrates some of the projects the National Lottery has supported over the past year.

Ninety-five community-based schemes from across the UK have been shortlisted. In each region the three that receive the most public votes will each receive a grant of up to £50,000 to help them continue their work.

Joe Ferns from The National Lottery Community Fund said: “As the largest funder of community activity in the UK we are proud to support groups that are led by the vision, determination and drive of local people to strengthen communities.

"In previous years we have seen a wide range of successful projects, from a cafe supporting young carers to animal-assisted therapy for people living with dementia and the development of a bee-friendly orchard.

“The People’s Projects is a chance for people to have their say on how National Lottery funding can help their community to thrive.”

Voting will run until noon on Monday at www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk/projects/region/stv-east.
