West Lothian clubs given sporting chance thanks to supermarket cash

Clubs across West Lothian can now apply for a range of funding options to suit their needs.

Aldi’s Scottish Sport Fund is back for its fifth year and one lucky club is in with a chance of securing a £2500 boost.

The fund is an initiative that aims to help people of all ages take part in physical activity within their local communities by giving clubs the chance to secure much needed funding.

Last year the Aldi Scottish Sport Fund supported several clubs across West Lothian including 17th West Lothian Scouts, Linlithgow Athletics Club, Bathgate Amateur Swimming Club and Blackburn United Football Club.

This year the supermarket aims to help sporting organisations in the region secure funding to put towards a range of purposes, including new strips and equipment or to put towards the cost of training facilities and coaching.

Since launching in 2016, over 394 clubs across Scotland have benefited from a funding boost of more than £190,000, helping to improve community access to sports across the country.

This year, Aldi has restructured the prizes to improve investment in grassroots sport, giving local sports clubs the chance to receive funding ranging from £500 to £2500.

Richard Holloway, regional managing director for Aldi Scotland, said: “We’re proud to have launched our largest ever single donation from the Aldi Scottish Sport Fund with funding prizes ranging from £500 to £2500.

“Our mission is to make it easier for people to access sport opportunities within their local communities, and with the Aldi Scottish Sport Fund, we hope to give local clubs a helping hand to continue their fantastic work, and encourage people across Scotland to lead a healthy, active lifestyle.

“Each year, we are blown away by the response we get to our call for applications and I’d encourage any sports club across West Lothian to apply.”

Aldi recently awarded four schools across Scotland £20,000 to spend on new equipment as part of the supermarket’s Kits For Schools initiative.

Sports clubs located across West Lothian have until Sunday, September 30 to apply. One applicant will be selected to receive £2500, two applicants will each receive £1000, while several other applicants will each receive £500 funding towards their sports club.

Applications will be selected at random to receive each of the funding brackets. Applications can be made via www.aldi.co.uk/scottishsportfund.
