West Lothian Clarion ace Alex Ball shines at National Clarion Track Championships

West Lothian Clarion's Alex Ball was in fine form as he travelled south for the National Clarion Track Championships.

In his second year in the Junior category, had last year won the adult’s 5 mile trophy with a last-minute lunge to the line, and this year came away with an even more impressive haul: winning the 5 mile scratch race, the pursuit, elimination and points race and handicap, and taking home the omnium trophy.

Clarion team-mate Steve McCaw picked up third in the Omnium and 5 mile race with some canny riding.

Elsewhere, Clarion alumnus Cameron Mason was in action for Great Britain at the UCI Cyclo-cross World Championships at Dübendorf in Switzerland, battling through an incredibly muddy course to achieve an impressive eighth place.

Eight riders from West Lothian Clarion headed to Ayr to take part in the Doonbank Trofee race, the third round of this year’s Super Quaich series.

Unusually for the Super Quaich, the race programme included races for under-14s and under-16s, as well as a fun event for under-12s.

Evan McKenzie and Gregor McPhaden from the club’s youth section competed in the under -16 race, with the riders having a great battle for podium positions as the race progressed.

The final lap saw real neck-and-neck racing between Gregor and Cameron for third spot, with Cameron ultimately getting a gap on the finish straight to take finish on the podium.

Clarion had a good set of results in the adult races, too.

Alan Ramsay competed in the A race, taking 14th place in the V40 male category. In the B race, Nina Tomlin took second place in the senior female category, and Ailsa Curtis was third in the V40 female category.

Simon Kenny won the V40 male category, and David Hordon and Jamie O’Kane took sixth and 11th places, respectively, in the V50 category.
