West Lothian children's daycare worker swindled nearly £2,500 from employer

A West Lothian children's daycare worker has been struck off the Scottish Social Services Council register after swindling their employer of almost £2,500.

The Fitness to Practice Panel came to the decision to remove the local worker from their position on January 21, 2022, after concluding that the person's fitness to practice was impaired.

The allegations were brought to light back in 2019, on August 13, after the worker was convicted of embezzlement at Livingston Sheriff Court.

The worker was caught after the care employer realised that the company's credit card had been used for a payment of roughly '£4,800'.

After the trial, the panel stated that 'extract conviction contains a Community Payback Order of compensation' is to be paid to the company, coming to £2,492.

The court heard from the presenter that the care worker was "inherently dishonest, you could not be regarded as truthful, open, honest, and trustworthy.

"Dishonesty calls into question whether you could be considered as reliable and dependable. You have breached several parts of the Code. This calls into question your fitness to practise."

The Panel then concluded that the risk of reoffending would be too great for the worker to be given just a warning, and was "satisfied that [the worker's] fitness to practise is currently impaired".

The removal order was granted for the reasons of: risk to the public and people who use the services, significant breach of trust, and risk of harm to public confidence is significant.

The decision was made over video call, by the members of the Fitness to Practise Panel, under the Scottish Social Services Council.
