West Lothian charity celebrates 30 years of supporting carers

A charity that went from a small group of parents helping each other cope to supporting over 7000 people is celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Carers of West Lothian launched anniversary celebrations at Craigsfarm in Livingston on Friday.

The organisation will use the milestone to highlight the priceless work of local unpaid carers throughout West Lothian.

There will be a programme of roadshows, information events, social events and fun activities throughout 2022 to mark 30 years of providing support, advice and information to unpaid carers and more recently, disabled people.

As the event was held during Black History Month, the organisation was delighted to be joined by Professor Emeritus Sir Geoff Palmer OBE, human rights activist and unpaid carers and disabled guests were joined by representatives from West Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership, elected officials and partners in the third sector to kick off the celebrations.

Chair of the board, Ann Pike said: “We’re delighted to be celebrating our milestone birthday and the impact we have made to peoples’ lives over 30 years.

“We have grown from a couple of parents helping each other cope with their caring situation, to now supporting over 7000 people including those with a disability and their carers, in a variety of ways. Being an unpaid carer is such an important role in society and we are proud of how Carers of West Lothian has grown over that time to meet the demand for those who want help.”
