West Lothian ceilidh band celebrates win at trad music awards

West Lothian’s Alan Crookston Ceilidh Band have been doing a jig in celebration of triumphing in the MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2022.

The band took the prize in the Dance Band of the Year category, after establishing a solid fan base in the trad music scene over the last few years.

The group has been together for eight years, although have played in different bands together previously.

During that time they’ve played the length and breadth of the country at festivals weddings and ceilidhs which they “absolutely love doing.”

Alan said: “The band were absolutely delighted to have been nominated for the second time for dance band of year, the first time was in 2015 and to win it this time round is a great achievement.

“We work really hard to keep the music alive in relevant anywhere we can and this gives us some recognition of this.

“It was a very strong category with 3 other top nominees so to have come out on top means the world to us.

“Thank you to each and every single one of you who voted for the band it means a lot to us. Massive congratulations to all the other winners and nominees in all the other categories.”

The band has recorded two albums and recorded six BBC Radio Scotland Take the Floor broadcasts.

Alan has also published two tune books of my own compositions which have both almost sold out.

BBC Scotland will broadcast highlights of the awards on Wednesday, December 28.
