West Lothian cars torched in attack on residential street as police launch manhunt

Vandals allegedly torched three cars in a dangerous attack on a street in Broxburn forcing fire crews to battle a large blaze.

Emergency responders rushed to the Old Town area in the West Lothian town in the early hours of Sunday morning after residents made a series of frantic calls over vehicles alight outside their homes.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze and avoid any serious injuries, but police are now treating the incident as deliberate.

Three cars, a silver Mercedes, a Nissan Micra and a Vauxhall Corsa were destroyed as a result of the attack.

Police have now released descriptions of two men they want to trace in connection with the fires and have urged anyone with information on the incident to come forward.

The first is described as in his late 40s to early 50s with short grey hair while the second is said to be a similar age and possibly wearing glasses at the time.

Detective Constable Laura Hanlon said: “Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of this incident.

“I am appealing for anyone who noticed anyone acting suspicious in the area or anything they think may assist to get in touch.

“I would also appeal to anyone with dashcam footage that could be of assistance to contact us.”

Anyone with information should contact police via 101, quoting incident number 0227 of 18 July, 2021.
