West Lothian bus service to St John's Hospital withdrawn due to shortage of drivers

A West Lothian bus service that links the different towns to the only hospital nearby has been suspended until further notice, due to a lack of drivers to run the service.

First Bus East announced the withdrawal of the number 27 service, that links the Livingston South Railway Station with various areas in the town and the hospital, until further notice.

The bus company made the decision and announced it on their Facebook, stating: "We thank you for your patience and understanding while we overcome this short-term situation.”

This news was not happily received however, as locals state the change was at too much short notice, the Daily Record also reports.

One Facebook user said: “Removing the only First Bus to go through Craigshill is disappointing. Hoping it will return at some point.”

Executive councillor for development and transport Cathy Muldoon said: “It’s unfortunate that the national shortage of bus drivers is impacting on local services here in West Lothian.

“Council officers have been in contact with First Bus representatives, and we share the hope that this issue can be resolved quickly and the 27 service reinstated as soon as possible.

“First have chosen this particular service to minimise disruption, with a number of other services also serving the key location such as town centre, Livingston South train station and St John’s Hospital.

“Anyone who normally uses the service and is looking for alternatives should visit www.traveline.info/ for help to plan their journey.”
