Fauldhouse Amateur Boxing Club are celebrating after tallying three golds and a silver at the recent Scottish Development Championships.
Zak Macaulay produced a stunning display to be crowned 2011 35.5kg champion, forcing a stoppage within 30 seconds while Fauldhouse teammate Jack McFarlane got the better of Jake Bredin of Cambusnethan to secure the 54kg 2005 gold medal.
Jack was in imperious form as he battled through three bouts before producing smart movement and footwork against his taller opponent in the final to gain a unanimous decision.
Campbell Sutherland scooped gold no.3 for the club in the 54kg 2008 category to cap off a tremendous run of form that has seen him also earn Novice Championship and William Wallace BoxCup titles.
Tony McKinlay was the club’s silver medal winner and can be delighted with his efforts in progressing through two bouts — including forcing a stoppage in the semi-final — before falling just short in the 56kg 2008 final.
Delighted Fauldhouse ABC coach Steven Henderson said: “Myself and all the coaches are all extremely proud of the boxers and all of the entries in this year’s tournament.
“Even though boxing is an individual activity in the ring, it’s a team sport behind closed doors and it’s because of the combined effort from everyone involved at the club that we are having success at these tournaments. And it’s only getting better.”
He added: “The club had seven entries this year at the Development Championships and came away with four finalists and three gold medals. It’s a brilliant achievement.
“Six of those seven have made their way up from the kids classes which only started a couple of years ago. That shows us that the club is heading in the right direction.”
