West Lothian band The Snuts received terrifying death threats from Demi Lovato fans

West Lothian indie band The Snuts have revealed how they received 'chilling' death threats from Demi Lovato fans after their debut album beat the pop star's in the race to the top of the Official UK charts.

Speaking to Toby Tarrant on Radio X, singer and guitarist Jack Cochrane told of the band's 'pretty scary' experience in the week leading up to their hit's success as their album raced ahead of Demi's.

Jack said: "It was a really intense week because Demi’s got some serious fans, we’ve got some serious fans and they back us up, but Demi Lovato has got some serious fans.

"Like, we were getting death threats, the lot - it was terrifying – It was pretty scary!"

W.L. debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart in April, making the Snuts the first Scottish band to do so with their debut album since The View in 2007.

Jack added: "You know, it’s a funny process because you just think you’ll put your album out and you’ll find out the next week where it does, but you actually get these horrible updates every morning where you see the numbers and we were kind of in front [of Demi Lovato] all week and I’m thinking to myself ‘there’s no chance we’re going to pull this off, we’re never going to beat her’ by the end of it."

Jack continued: "So, I was sitting – there’s a pond just down the road from my house so I was just kind of sitting down there, you know, just not saying a word.

"Miserable, like ‘we’re never going to beat her’ then I got a wee phone call.

"So I was just sitting at a wee loch, like a wee lake down there, myself, crying. Like ‘what is going on here?’ But it was magical, man."

The competition was intense but the lads received support from other Scots musicians including Lewis Capaldi and Luke La Volpe.
