West Lothian band The Snuts get to number one with a little help from Lewis Capaldi

West Lothian rockers The Snuts were celebrating today after hitting top spot in the UK album charts.

The Whitburn four-piece's new offering WL was named number one album in the official charts.

We reported how the band were in a race against US singer Demi Lovato and were delighted to come out on top.

The Daily Record reported how the lads became the first Scottish band to secure the top-selling album spot for 14 years - since The View's Hats Off To The Buskers in 2007.

The band is made up of Jack Cochrane (vocals and guitar), Joe McGillveray (guitar), Callum Wilson (bass) and Jordan 'Joko' Mackay (drums).

Taking to their Instagram page, the boys kept it short by posting a picture of their album along with their number one award and a bottle of Buckfast, and wrote: "Whitburn f****n loopy #1."

And fans were delighted for them.

One wrote: "AMAZING!!! Well done lads; so bloody deserved. What an album!"

Another added: "So buzzing!!! Biggest congrats!!"

At the start of the week, Jack Cochrane, Callum Wilson, Joe McGillveray and Jordan Mackay told their fans that they were on a mission to make it to number one.

They told fans: "Today we found out that we are about to embark in the biggest fight of our lives (square go) This Friday the count is in with The Infamous Snuts in a showdown of the ages for the number 1 album spot. Are you with us?"

They add: "WL is a message to anyone who has ever been doubted or told they weren’t good enough. "

Jack said: "Making this record has been the most exciting, heartbreaking, joyful and painful experience of my life. I love this too much and I tried so hard to never let that get in the way of making the best record we possibly could."

Edinburgh Live reported last week how fellow West Lothian star Lewis Capaldi risked the wrath of Lovato fans by backing The Snuts in a hilarious video.
